今天，我上奥数课的时候，丁老师给我们讲了一个故事。

Today, when I was in the Olympic math class, Mr. Ding told us a story.

以前，有一个国家战败了，公主带领一些人逃了出来，逃到一个海岛，公主想向当地的酋长买一大块地安顿下来，酋长给公主一张黑板大小的牛皮对公主说：“你用这张牛皮能围住多大的地方，我就卖给你多大地方。”公主想一想，就把这张牛皮用剪子剪成细条，然后用针缝起来了，在海边围成一个半圆形。这个酋长不得不佩服这位聪明的'公主，终于把这片地方让给了这位公主。

Once upon a time, when a country was defeated in the war, the princess led some people to escape to an island. The princess wanted to buy a large piece of land from the local chief to settle down. The chief gave the princess a piece of leather the size of a blackboard and said to the princess, "if you can encircle any place with this piece of leather, I will sell it to you." When the princess thought about it, she cut this piece of cowhide into thin strips with scissors, then sewed it up with needles and made a semicircle at the seaside. The chief had to admire the clever Princess and finally gave the place to her.

丁老师告诉我们说；“我们现在学过的几种图形中，圆的面积是最大的，下来就属正方形的面积了。大家明白了吗？
