一到寒暑假，我就会去外婆家，和小表哥玩。我最喜欢的是那里的井水和河水。河水清澈见底，井水十分清凉，可以直接饮用。

可惜，今年，我回到外婆家，发现井水和河水已经完全变样了：河面上飘着一大堆的垃圾，有透明的、有白色的、有红色的；还有一些树叶、鸭毛、鸡毛也浮在河面上可凉地呻吟着；河底的垃圾更是让我受不了：不知从哪里来的粪便，岸边的小石头上长满了青苔。

小表哥闲着无事时，会拿把扫帚把一只鸡赶到水里。于是，鸡身上的灰尘全掉到水里。

晚上放烟花的时候，小表哥把放完后还在发热的冲天泡扔到河里，这样不知毒死了多少小鱼，还给周围的环境带来了很大的污染。

污染过的河水也会污染到干净的井水。这样，干净的井水就变得恶心，不能再喝了。

我家门前有一条清澈见底的小河，里面有好多小鱼，小虾，水草，河水不深，夏天可以去河里游泳，洗衣服，孩子们可以打水仗，周围有好多房子倒映在水中，十分美丽，使人看了就舒服。

以前我住在这里时，每天都快快乐乐的，有这条河水陪伴我，多么舒服啊!

几年之后，这里的`小鱼不见了，水草死了，小虾也已经不见了踪影。河水开始渐渐变得浑浊，也有了几分臭味。因此，人们开始讨厌这条河，渐渐离它远去了。河对岸的老奶奶，整天叹着气，说:‘‘哎，高楼倒是建起来了，可这小河却变得脏兮兮的，现在的社会啊!”

我们科学研究小组通过考察，发现在小河附近有家工厂，工厂每天排放了很多污水。倒置小河变脏。我们与那座工厂的老板反复商量了好多次，老板终于决定买一个污水处理器，然后，我们在小河边的土壤上插上这样一块木牌:保护小河，人人有责！

我相信，有了这些措施后，那条小河将会和以前一样清澈，那样美丽，自然。以前不见踪影的小鱼小虾都回来了，夏天有可以游泳了，水草又活过来了，这条小河又可以陪伴着我。让我每天都十分快乐。

我的老家在江西省新建县的一个小山村里。

以前，我们老家很穷，走着泥巴小路，住着木头小屋，可生活得十分开心。因为那里山青水秀、鸟语花香，美丽极了。而且，那还有一条清澈见底的小溪。那里春夏秋冬都很美丽，不过最美的还是夏天。小孩子都跑到那条小溪里游泳、玩耍，里面的小鱼也跟着嬉戏。大人们在小溪里洗衣服、在大树底下聊天、乘凉。

又过了几年，我再次来到我的老家，那完全变了，木头小屋变成了一栋栋高楼，听奶奶说，现在人们都富裕了，砍下树木做成了一栋栋高楼。我连忙向小溪边跑去，看见那条小溪已经变成了“垃圾场”，上面漂着瓶子、果皮、废纸和杂物等，再看看曾经长着大树的地方，已经变成一片片裸露的土地。我多么希望时间能倒流，让那些人们保护环境，不到处扔垃圾，乱砍树木。

唉！什么时候才能变成我梦想中的家乡啊！

Environmental problems are becoming more and more serious all over the world. For example, cars have made the air unhealthy for people to breathe and poisonous gas is given off by factories. Trees on the hills have been cut down and waste water is being poured continuously into hermore, wherever we go today, we can find rubbish carelessly disposed. Pollution is, in fact, threatening our existence.

The earth is our home and we have the duty to take care of it for ourselves and for our later generations. Fortunately, more and more people have realized these problems. Measures have been taken to cope with these problems by the government. Laws have been passed to stop pollution. I hope the problem will be solved in the near future and our home will become better and better.

A great deal of energy is needed to run the factories of modern industrial nations. Automobile, trains, planes and busses need energy, too.

Nearly all of this energy is produced by burning fuels. The burning produces wastes, some of which remain in the air, causing air pollution.

Scientists are finding ways to stop air pollution especially in big industrial areas and densely-populated cities.

They are studying new ways of generating electricity that may be less damaging to the environment. In the meantime, many power plants are being modernized to give off less polluted material.

Also, engineers try to design and locate new power plants to do minimum damage to the environment.

However, it may be that we still have a long way to go before we have a "clean" world.

Nearly all of the countries are trying hard to prevent and control air pollution. There indeed seems to be no end to tasks that environmentalists will be required to do.

People will continually find new ways to control pollution.

Too many cars have caused a lot of serious problems in our world. Besides congestion, accidents and fast fuel consumption, cars are responsible for a good part of air pollution in big cities.

One possible solution is to design and develop clean cars and clean fuels. In Shanghai, some of the public buses begin to run on natural gas, which does not give off as much carbon dioxide as petrol. Another solution is to develop modern public transportation systems and restrict the use of private cars. If the price of petrol rises constantly and the public vehicles are efficient and convenient enough, most people will not buy private cars. Thus, the total number of cars in big cities will reduce greatly.

On the whole, the elimination of air pollution needs the collective efforts from the government, the public and the environmentalists.
