The situation can even become dangerous, if the top crowd decides that it is smart to drink or to drive cars at seventy miles an hour. Then the people who follow the lead are endangering their lives. They are like the sheep being led to the butcher.

Now, chances are that you have come across situations like these more than once in your life; chances are that one time or another you probably did something you knew to be wrong. You may have excused yourself by saying, “Gee, the crowd does it.” Well, let the crowd do it, but don’t do it yourself. Learn to say, “No.”

Develop your own standards and your own judgment. If you know the crowd is planning something you disagree with, have the courage to bow out politely. You’ll have the satisfaction of standing on your own two feet. Remember this in your heart, you are the unique one in the world, just be yourself.

What is the American Dream? Is it the same for all Americans? Is it a myth? Is it simply a search for a better life? How has the American Dream changed over time? The term American Dream was first used by James Adams in his book The Epic of America which was written in 1931. It is a difficult dream for the European upper classes to interpret adequately, and too many of us ourselves have grown tired and mistrustful of it. Yet others look toward a new American Dream with less focus on financial gain and more emphasis on living a simple, fulfilling life.

The Earth’s crust is old. Billions of years old. So old that it’s nearly impossible to imagine. And now scientists have discovered what may be the oldest whole rocks ever known. Geologists at Carnegie Mellon University published the results of the research in the September 26th issue of the journal Science.

The rocks come from an area of the Hudson Bay in northern Quebec. In 20xx the geologists identified the site as a possible repository of very old rocks. It is made up of folds of volcanic and what are called metasedentary rocks. And it’s surrounded by three-and-a-half-billion-year-old tonalite.

Researchers collected rocks and measured minute isotopic variations in rare earth elements called neodymium and samarium. According to dating techniques, the rocks could be 4.28 billion years old. It’s rare to find rocks that date back to when the Earth’s mantle was forming. It was quite a tumultuous time, and most rocks were smashed up into tiny pieces again and again. Learning more about these whole rocks could help us gain a better understanding of the very beginnings of our planet.

Many colleges and universities have expanded their enrollment since 1998. The reasons for the expansion are as follows. However, studies show that the trend to expand has brought about many problems. For instance, the teaching facilities and accommodation capacities of many colleges and universities are limited and are unable to meet the demand of an ever-increasing number of the newly enrolled students. On the other hand, the average quality of the freshmen is declining. In the long run, hunting for a job will be a tough thing for the graduates and that will inevitably exert much pressure on the prospects of employment.

In spite of all this, I am still confident that the expansion of enrollment is of great benefit to our society and is a good thing. With the development of our national economy, the problem as mentioned above will be solved if proper measures are taken.
